THE FIVE FREEDOMS OF BEING HUMAN

THINK. FEEL. ACT. HAVE. BE.

The Five Freedoms of Being Human name five places available for Questioning within Human experience: what you THINK, what you FEEL, how you ACT, what you HAVE, and how you BE.

They are not steps, and they do not prescribe what your answers should be. Each can be encountered through Self, System, and Society.

THINK. What are you thinking—and how did that thought become yours?

Question what you assume, believe, interpret, remember, expect, accept, reject, or leave unresolved.

Example Questions

  • What am I thinking?
  • Where did this thought or answer come from?
  • What am I treating as true?
  • What do I want to question, reconsider, verify, or leave unresolved?

FEEL. What are you feeling—and what changes when you allow yourself to notice it?

Feeling does not have to become a conclusion. It can be information, experience, reaction, uncertainty, tension, desire, relief, or something you do not yet know how to name.

Example Questions

  • What am I feeling?
  • What seems connected to this feeling?
  • What am I assuming this feeling means?
  • What happens if I let the feeling exist without requiring it to become an answer?

ACT. What are you doing—or choosing not to do?

Action can include beginning, stopping, responding, waiting, questioning, accepting, declining, testing, changing, or deliberately doing nothing for now.

Example Questions

  • What am I doing?
  • What response is actually mine to make?
  • What am I choosing, avoiding, allowing, or postponing?
  • What might I try next?

HAVE. What do you have, need, want, value, access, possess, or experience yourself as having?

HAVE can include material circumstances, resources, relationships, opportunities, responsibilities, limitations, experiences, and the meanings attached to them.

Example Questions

  • What do I have?
  • What do I believe I need?
  • What am I pursuing, protecting, keeping, or trying to change?
  • What meaning am I giving to what I have—or do not have?

BE. Who and how are you being within this experience?

BE invites Questioning of identity, presence, becoming, and what it means to experience Being Human without requiring identity to become a finished answer.

Example Questions

  • Who or how am I being here?
  • What am I identifying with?
  • What am I becoming through my responses?
  • What remains open about who I am?

THE FIVE FREEDOMS DON'T STOP AT SELF

Each Freedom can also be Questioned in the systems Humans create and across the society Humans experience.

SELF

How am I experiencing this Freedom?

SYSTEM

How does this system permit, direct, limit, measure, assume, or respond to this Freedom?

SOCIETY

What happens when those patterns are repeated across Human lives?

Questions and answers can come from anywhere. Questioning must remain yours.
